Scanning
Hold the back of the card inside the band on the Scan screen. The result appears in under a second, with or without an internet connection. In a dark doorway tap the light; tap the level under it to change brightness. Tap the camera view to focus.
PASS, CHECK and DENY
- PASS (green): old enough, not expired, nothing flagged.
- CHECK (amber): look at the card and the person yourself. Reasons include barcode data that doesn't add up, a guest seen at this or another door a few minutes ago, several different birth dates for one ID number, or a guest denied earlier tonight. The line under CHECK says which, for example “Entered 2 min ago · Patio”.
- DENY (red): under the age limit, expired, or banned.
“Checks” on the result screen lists each check. “How to inspect an ID” shows what to look at by hand. Staff can still deny a PASS or CHECK with Deny and a reason.
The list: VIP, banned, notes
From a result, mark the guest VIP or Ban them (tonight, for a period, or with no end date) and add a note. The List tab shows everyone marked, with who marked them and when. The app stores no name: write a label (for example “red jacket, DJ's friend”) so you can tell entries apart. A ban that has ended says so and is no longer applied.
What the app keeps
- Count only: nightly totals only, plus the people you mark VIP or banned.
- Remember visits: also a record of each entry (time, result, visit count) under a key that cannot be turned back into a person, deleted after the period you choose.
- One-time event: for a festival gate or pop-up bar without a venue: the night's totals only, no list.
Some states set the default; the app says so when you pick your state. No mode keeps names, birth dates or ID numbers. See the Privacy Policy.
Counting people in and out
- +1 counts someone who came in without a scan: staff, performers, the guest list. If a barcode won't read, “Let in without scan” under the warning counts it as an unreadable ID.
- −1 (team door phones) counts someone leaving. IDs are never scanned on the way out.
- Every tap can be undone for 5 seconds.
- Inside now (team) shows how many are inside; with a capacity set it turns amber at 90% and says “At capacity” at 100%.
Tonight and reports
A night runs from 6 AM to 6 AM, so a shift from 8 PM to 2 AM stays one night, named after the day it started. Tonight shows entries, CHECK, denials by reason, scans by hour, age ranges, sex and issuing states; “Entered” includes people counted with +1. The owner of a team also picks a period (tonight, last night, the last 7 or 30 nights, or chosen nights) and a door. Export any report as PDF or CSV.
Team: several door phones
- Set up team (owner, Settings › Team): sign in with Apple, create the venue, choose a team plan.
- Add a phone: type the door name, then show the code; the other phone taps Join a venue and scans it. The code works once and for 15 minutes.
- Phones: rename or remove door phones; choose each phone's role (entrance, exit, or both).
- The owner's age limit, visit setting, retention and state apply to every door phone. The owner can also let only the owner write the list.
- A ban or VIP mark reaches the other doors within about 15 seconds.
- Keep iCloud Keychain on for the owner's Apple Account (iPhone Settings › your name › iCloud › Passwords and Keychain). It holds the venue's secret; without it a new owner phone cannot recognise the list. The secret never goes to our server, and on door phones it stays on that phone only.
- Leave team on a door phone removes it from the venue and clears its local data.
Offline
Everything at the door works without a connection. A team phone shows “offline · N queued” and sends its scans and marks when the connection returns.
Subscription
The first 10 scans are free. Then choose a monthly or 6-month plan, or a 7-day Event Pass for a one-off event. The team plan is per venue and covers up to 10 phones. The list, Tonight and reports stay available without a subscription.
ID Scanner helps staff check IDs; it does not give legal advice. Check the rules where you operate.
